GOTHIC LITERATURE
What is Gothic literature? Some people refer to Gothic Literature today as Gothic Horror. It is a genre or mode of literature that combines Fiction, Horror, and Romanticism. Today the word Gothic describes a style of European Architecture which is used from the 12th to the 16th centuries. Though the word seems originally referring to the Greek or Roman Architecture. Gothic is a particular style of art in the form of novels, painting, or architecture.
An example of a Gothic Novel is when Ann B. Tracy writes in her novel The Gothic Novel 1790-1830 Plot Summaries and Index to Motifs. It can be seen as a fallen world. We experience this throughout the plot, settings, characterization, and the theme of the book.
